Shivapurana, the ancient scripture of Shaivism, depicts that on the auspicious occasion of the wedding ceremony of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvathi which took place in Mount Kailash, all the deities gathered to get the blessings of the Ultimate Lord. Due to the weight of the crowd, the Earth underwent an axial shift. In order to balance, Lord Shiva chose Maharishi Ahasthya.
